Mustafa Said Mehmetoglu

About Me

Hi. I am a senior engineer at Qualcomm Inc. at Santa Clara, California. I am a part of a very large group of engineers that help connect our mobile devices to the internet through 3G/4G/LTE.

I obtained my B.S. degree from Bilkent University in Electrical Engineering in 2011, and my PhD degree from University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2016. My supervisor was Prof. Kenneth Rose.

I was born in Turkey, which I miss a lot, but I have been living in California for 6 years and I love it here too. I am married to Esra.

In addition to my academic and professional works, I have many interests and work on various personal projects. You can find a snapshot of my works and interests on this page.

Academic Work

In the general areas of communications and signal processing, specifically, source-channel coding, networking and optimization.

Job

WCDMA, LTE, 5G. Design, development and commercialization of modem chipsets.

My Thesis

I design and employ a functional optimization tool, within the powerful non-convex optimization framework of Deterministic Annealing, for various communication networks and decentralized control problems.

Personal Projects

Machine Learning

I study machine learning through online courses and seminars, and currently work on a project about ratings (to be revealed soon).

Puzzles

One of my biggest hobbies, I design puzzles and brain teasers. I am working on a project that I hope to commercialize.

Mobile App

I studied mobile app development through Stanford online course and prototyped a game app.

My Interests and Hobbies

Traveling

I love to travel, be it natural, historical or modern places. I have visited 5 countries so far.

Reading

Reading is a great passion for me, and a Kindle is one of the best gadgets I ever purchased.

Sports

I keep an active lifestyle. I enjoy hiking, swimming and working out at a gym.
